A mixed bag of mercenaries and militia people find themselves on an alien planet that acts as a game preserve where they are being hunted. They must join forces to combat a merciless race of aliens..
Predators is the third movie in the Predator franchise and like all the others are loosely connected to each other. I didn’t really know what to expect from this one, as not many people talked about it. However, I actually found it to be pretty good.

This scenario of this movie is that different forms of human killers ranging from mercenaries to soldiers and convicts are dropped into a different planet and forced to work together to survive the alien killers that hunt them. Initially it does seem a bit similar to the original film, mainly with the forest setting. However, the different types of characters and the facts that they are on a different planet and being hunted by multiple predators, does add something. I liked this concept and on the whole, Predators is well paced and entertaining. I also really like how it expands on the predator mythos. Still, despite the slight changes, Predators can’t help but feel very familiar. The plot beats are expected and while there are some very good sequences, I admit that I didn’t find much of the film to be special or memorable (at least compared to the previous two films).

The cast which consists of actors like Adrien Brody, Mahershala Ali, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Topher Grace, and Alice Braga are quite good and work together well. They do well at emphasising that their characters are sometimes just as vicious as the Predators they are being hunted by, and in some way they make up for the lack of character development.

Predators is directed by Nimrod Antal, while his work is good, it really needed something more and special. It was produced by Robert Rodriguez and I would’ve loved to have seen him direct it himself instead. Still, it is well put together. The action is really good, the effects are solid, and the predators are particularly well designed. I especially enjoyed seeing the different variations of predators instead of just multiple carbon copies of them.

While it is very familiar and the characters are thinly written, Predators works well for what it is, especially with some great action and a strong cast. I consider it to be at the very least on part with Predator 2. Definitely worth checking out if you like any of the other Predator movies.
