I had heard about Legally Blonde for a while, it was something of a hit comedy from the 2000s starring Reese Witherspoon. I finally got around to it, and I really liked it.

Legally Blonde is definitely formulaic and predictable with a number of cliches, and the courtroom drama aspect probably isn’t entirely accurate. However, that doesn’t really matter. On the whole it’s very entertaining and enjoyable. It’s self aware, the comedy is really good and it’s very quotable. Definitely a crowd pleaser and a good time.

Much of the movie is good but it just wouldn’t be the same without the lead performance of Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods. It’s a great comedic performance, she easily could’ve been played as a cartoon, but she doesn’t do that. She is definitely the highlight of the movie. The supporting cast is good too, with actors including Luke Wilson, Victor Garber, Ali Larter, Selma Blair, and Jennifer Coolidge performing well in their parts.

The direction from Robert Luketic is pretty good. There is a lot of creativity in the production and costume design, and the movie is accompanied by a great soundtrack.

Legally Blonde is funny, very enjoyable and surprising, with Reese Witherspoon’s wonderful performance really making the movie.
