I remember hearing about Coco when it came out, but it admittedly took me some time before I got around to actually watching the acclaimed Pixar animated film. It lived up to its hype, and I’d consider it to be one of Pixar’s best animated movies of recent years.

Coco definitely plays within the Pixar formula, and you can sort of predict the story. Still, the movie is entertaining and funny throughout, and the characters are well written. The story is also heartfelt and has a lot of emotional depth, especially with the movie being about family, fame, and being remembered, even in death.

This movie is worth watching for the animation alone. It is gorgeously animated, vibrant, and colourful, it’s stunning to watch. Unsurprising with music being center to the story, its very prominent in the movie, and makes great use of it. Michael Giacchino’s score is really good, and the songs are very catchy.

Coco is a stunningly animated and very creative movie, among the best of Pixar’s most recent films.
