I really didn’t know a whole lot about this movie going in, just that it was something of an action movie starring Pierce Brosnan that was released on Prime Video. It was enjoyable enough for what it was.

Fast Charlie was a typically simple story about Pierce Brosnan’s aging hitman character looking to get revenge. It was rather generic and wasn’t anything surprising, but still mildly fun. There’s some enjoyable cheesiness and charm to it, and some surprising comedy, mainly in the first act. Thankfully, it moves at a fast enough pace across its 90 minute runtime.

If you like Pierce Brosnan, this movie might be worth watching for him alone. As usual, he carries his character with wit and charm and is enjoyable to watch. Even at the age of 70, he is believable in his role of a hitman. The supporting cast is generally good, with Morena Baccarin, and James Caan in his final role.

Director Phillip Noyce made Salt, Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games, so he has a solid output of action movies. His direction for Fast Charlie is on autopilot and he has delivered better work before, but it is made finely enough. The action scenes aren’t spectacular, but they are well choreographed and shot.

Fast Charlie is an enjoyable enough crime thriller with benefits from a reliable Pierce Brosnan and some entertaining action sequences.
