I really didn’t know anything about All We Imagine as Light outside of its very positive reception from those who saw it. I checked it out the moment I got the chance to do so, and it didn’t disappoint.

All We Imagine as Light is a captivating and meditative slice of life film, which benefits from its solid and well written screenplay. It is a very intimate, raw and grounded movie, while being very tender and warm. The movie is essentially focussing on the lives of three women as it examines love, friendship, melancholy, and especially the feeling of living alone in a big city, and it’s easy to get invested in it.

The film is amplified by the relatable, moving and grounded performances from the cast, especially Kani Kasruti and Divya Prahba and the dynamic between them.

Payal Kapadia’s direction is smooth and incredible; it’s a visually beautiful film and I loved the colour palette. Mumbai as a setting is very well captured, and they do an excellent job at making it feel like a constant character in itself. I really loved the calm and serene vibe throughout the whole film, helped by the score from Topshe.

All We Imagine as Light is a naturalistic, intimate, understated, visually stunning, excellent directed, and meditative slice of life film with incredible performances.
