All I knew about La Chimera going in is that it starred Josh O’Connor, somewhat involved an archaeology aspect, and heard that a lot of people liked it. While I wouldn’t say that I loved it like others did, it was pretty good.

Essentially, La Chimera is a bittersweet and spiritual journey about someone who is suffering from loneliness due to loss, which was overall pretty solid. It is a slow burn and it took a while for me to get into it, especially during the first act. But it does pick up and I was reasonably invested enough. It mainly shines in the third act, and it has a great ending.

The acting is great all around. Josh O’Connor is amazing in the lead role, as are Carol Duarte and Isabella Rossellini in their supporting parts.

The direction from Alice Rohrwacher is strong. The cinematography is stunning and captures some beautiful environments, it’s edited well, and there are some good music choices.

La Chimera is a melancholic, slow burn, stylised, and visually beautiful, with an amazing lead performance from Josh O’Connor.
