I had heard that All That Jazz was great, but I wasn’t sure what I was getting into beyond the fact that it was a musical. I was able to watch it in the cinema and it absolutely delivered.

I don’t know much about director Bob Fosse, but many have said that All that Jazz is semi self-autobiographical for him, and the movie certainly felt deeply personal. It’s a compelling character focused descent about addiction and facing inner demons, following its self destructive protagonist. The last hour is where it takes things to a whole other level, and concludes with a dazzling musical sequence.

Roy Scheider delivers an incredible, transformative and captivating lead performance. The rest of the cast including Jessica Lange are also great in their roles.

Bob Fosse’s direction is creative, stylish and highly energetic. The cinematography is stunning with vibrant colours, and the editing is phenomenal. It particularly shines in its dazzling musical numbers, with amazing song and dance sequences.

All That Jazz is introspective, energetic, and phenomenally crafted, with incredible musical numbers and an outstanding performance from Roy Scheider. I understand now why it’s considered an all timer classic.
