The original Nobody was a pleasantly surprising action movie. It was entertaining, the action scenes were well done, and Bob Odenkirk made for an unexpectedly great action lead. While it certainly didn’t need a sequel, I definitely was on board for its upcoming follow up. It definitely has its issues, but I enjoyed Nobody 2.

On the whole, the writing and story of Nobody 2 wasn’t nearly as good as its predecessor. Compared to the first movie, the plot feels a little thinner and vague, it really does feel like the plot was constructed to put Bob Odenkirk in action scenes at a theme park and not much else. The pacing is inconsistent, especially on the slower side in the first act. Nobody 2 also leans into the silliness more than even the first movie did, it’s a little too self aware and the humour does blunt the edges a little. At the same time, there is still some charm to it. It is very effective in its 90 minute runtime, and in the third act it goes all out with the action and is very fun to watch.

Bob Odenkirk reprises his role as Hutch Mansell and once again was great, delivering on the comedy, drama, and the action. Connie Nielsen gets to do a little more here compared to the last movie, this also extends to the actors playing the son and daughter. It was also good to see Christopher Lloyd and RZA back, even if their roles and involvements in the plot were smaller here. As for the new additions, John Ortiz is pretty good in this, and I liked how his role in the movie played out. Sharon Stone is also wonderfully hammy and over the top as the main villain. Unfortunately, for such an eccentric character and performance, Stone really wasn’t in the movie nearly enough for it to land as much as the movie was trying, it needed more of her.

Timo Tjahjanto takes over directing the sequel, and his work here is pretty good. The action scenes of course are a highlight, bloody, brutal, creative and exciting with really good choreography and camerawork. Though if you’re expecting Tjahjanto’s action to somewhat resemble the action in The Night Comes For Us, you’ll be a little disappointed as it feels a tad restrained here.

While it’s a bit messy and isn’t as good as the original, Nobody 2 is still very entertaining with a good cast and well directed action.
