I had heard about Bridget Jones’s Diary for a while, that it was a well known romantic comedy with Renée Zellweger in one of her most known roles, and even received 3 sequels (one of which came out this year). I finally got around to watching it, and I really enjoyed it.

Bridget Jones’s Diary certainly feels like an early 2000s romantic comedy, down to its dated gender politics. Still, I found it to be quite funny and enjoyable throughout, if filled with a lot of intentionally cringe/embarrassing moments.

As the titular character, Renée Zellweger delivers a fun performance, delightful, funny and charming. Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are also great and fitting in their parts.

Bridget Jones’s Diary is a charming romcom with great performances (especially from Renée Zellweger), if familiar and of its time.
