Dan Trachtenberg directed Prey, one of the best films in the Predator franchise, and this year he would make another film in the franchise with Predator: Badlands, which was also really good. However, months before Badlands he already made a Predator movie, which was straight to Hulu/Disney+ and was animated. I had heard of it before, but for some reason I didn’t look into it until now. Having finally gotten around to it now, I think it’s also quite good.

Killer of Killers is an anthology film: we get the stories of three separate characters who encounter a predator/yautja, before they culminate and cross over with each other. The second story set in feudal Japan was my favourite of the three, followed by the norse/Viking setting of the first segment. I particularly liked seeing how people from those periods were fighting the predators. My least favourite of the stories was the third, which followed a pilot during World War 2. It was decent and had some thrills, but I found it a bit too familiar to the military based original Predator, and had the least interesting protagonist of the three. Killer of Killers definitely has fun with the concept of mashing different genres and time periods together. Most of the three stories could’ve worked as their own feature length films, and the short time for each of them means that they don’t receive much development. However, I liked the simplicity and the pacing is kept tight, and at under 90 minutes there is no filler. I also enjoyed how these three stories and characters tied together and how they eventually culminated at the end.

I liked the animation, it’s very much inspired by Arcane’s animation style. The action is very entertaining and fittingly gruesome with some great fight choreography, and the presentations of the predators were really good.

Predator: Killer of Killers is a fun and well animated anthology film with entertaining action. A creative and solid entry in the franchise.
