I saw The Wrecking Crew as being advertised as a straight to Prime Video action comedy starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista. I didn’t have the highest of hopes for it, but expected to be entertained on some levels, and thankfully I did get some enjoyment out of it.

The Wrecking Crew isn’t anything special, it’s generically written, by the numbers and pretty standard. Still, it’s a solid enough buddy cop comedy that’s entertaining enough for what it is. Surprisingly, it leans into the drama especially with the backstory of the brothers played by Momoa and Bautista. The attempt was admirable, but the execution wasn’t great, didn’t add a whole lot and wasn’t really needed for this type of movie. The Wrecking Crew was 122 minutes long and while I did enjoy the movie throughout, I felt that it could’ve been a little shorter.

The movie benefits from its fun cast. Jason Momoa and Dave Bautstia make for a good pairing, they have a fun sibling rivalry and bounce off each other very well. There are also some decent supporting performances from Temuera Morrison, Morena Baccarin, Claes Bang and Jacob Batalon.

The direction from Blue Beetle helmer Ángel Manuel Soto is quite good. The action often has some very dodgy CGI, but in spite of that, it’s entertaining, and well shot and edited. The violence even has some edge and impact to it which helps the action to really pop. The first fight scene with Jason Momoa is particularly attention grabbing.

The Wrecking Crew is a generic, but enjoyable enough buddy action comedy, with a fun cast and entertaining action scenes.
