The first Transporter film was a basic but entertaining enough action flick, and it made Jason Statham an action star. The sequel leans far more into the over the top elements, making for an even more enjoyable experience.

Transporter 2 is more focused on being a fast paced and entertaining action thriller than the first movie, and is tight and light on story. I don’t mind this treatment, the plot is familiar and predictable, but the first movie’s story wasn’t anything special anyway. It embraces the silliness far more, to really great effect.

Jason Statham reprises his role of Frank Martin, he has the right amount of charisma, plays it quite straight faced amongst all the insanity around him, and of course he delivers in the action scenes.

Louis Letterier has gone from co-directing the first movie with Corey Yuen to taking on sole directing duties for the sequel. The visual style feels very 2000s, with the saturated colours and dodgy CGI, which is quite fitting for the tone and feel for the overall movie. As said before, Transporter 2 leans far more into the over the top silliness and this is mainly seen in the action sequences, and prioritizes those scenes far more than even the first movie. We see plenty of car chases and fight scenes, all well captured, choreographed, and wonderfully absurd and cartoonish.

Transporter 2 surpasses its predecessor, embraces the absurdity more and continues to deliver with the over the top and fun action.
