I remember not liking the third Transporter all that much when I first watched it, for certainly not as much compared to the previous two movies in the series. Revisiting it, my thoughts hadn’t changed at all.

Like the previous two movies, the plot of Transporter 3 isn’t anything special. However, it was particularly generic and formulaic. There is some enjoyable silliness to be found in the action, but on the whole, the movie isn’t even over the top enough to make it fun.

Jason Statham returns as Frank Martin and still delivers quite well in his part, especially with the action and stunts. Natayla Rudakova is the secondary lead and her character is incredibly annoying and made the experience even more grating. There’s no chemistry between her and Statham either. For what it’s worth, Robert Knepper was an effective villain and hams it up to an appropriate degree.

Olivier Megaton directed the Taken sequels, and watching Transporter 3, it was pretty quick to tell that it was his work. The fast paced and crazed editing makes it difficult to make out what’s going on in the action, especially the fights. Some action scenes still manage to be entertaining, but even the best parts couldn’t reach the levels of anything from the previous two movies.

Despite an ever reliable Jason Statham, Transporter 3 is a generic and occasionally annoying action movie with lacklustre direction and poor editing.
